The February #homebarawards challenge was to create a tiki drink with at least two rums and an element of fire. Here’s my entry!
Please be careful if you are going to light the absinthe on fire! Be responsible and stay safe! The cocktail is still great even if you can’t light the fire.
Here’s how to make a Fire-Starter at home.
Ingredients
- 30 ml white rum
- 10 ml absinthe
- 15 ml falernum
- 40 ml grapefruit juice
- 40 ml cranberry juice
- 2 dashes of bitters
- Ginger beer to top
- 30 ml dark Jamaican rum float
- Absinthe filled flaming lime half to garnish (optional: cinnamon sprinkle)
Method
Shake the first 6 ingredients together over ice. Strain into a hurricane glass filled with crushed ice. Top with a little bit of ginger beer, but don’t fill all the way. Float the dark rum on the surface. Sit the lime half on top of the drink, fill with absinthe and carefully light. If you want it to flare up big time, do a generous dash of cinnamon over the top of the flame, but be sensible!
